014 Radiant Blacklight Edition // LAST CHANCE TO ORDER!
Experience Existence in a Whole New Light
Hey everyone! Happy Friday!
So, this is going to be a fun one. Remember a little while back, how we announced that Radiant Black #10 was going to be taking place entirely inside a black hole? And how, you know, in a commitment to the bit, we decided to do the whole issue with fluorescent inks, as a true blacklight comic? (Shout out to the awesome Jim Rugg, who put together the world’s first full blacklight comic book last year and co-runs one of my favorite YouTube channels, Cartoonist Kayfabe).
Here’s our blacklight solicit, in case you have no idea what I’m talking about:
RADIANT BLACK #10 BLACKLIGHT EDITION
WRITER: KYLE HIGGINS
ARTISTS: MARCELO COSTA & IGOR MONTI
COVER: ELEONORA CARLINI
NOVEMBER 17 / 32 PAGES / FC / T+ / $9.99
Experience Existence in a whole new light! This never-to-be-reprinted edition of RADIANT BLACK #10 is printed with blacklight-reactive fluorescent inks, exclusively recolored by IGOR MONTI!
Welcome to Existence. An unimaginable infinity beyond space and time.
Marshall is trapped there. But how? And why? Can he make it out?
And what is Catalyst?
Sounds cool, right? Well, it looks even cooler. And today, we’re finally going to unveil the mad wizardry that Marcelo, Igor Monti, Becca Carey, Michael and I have all been working up.
Welcome… to Existence.
The orange and pink are fluorescent Pantones, while all yellow (including yellow mixed in the CMYK) will be replaced with fluorescent yellow.
Here’s a few more unlettered, out-of-context wonders.
Now if you’re thinking to yourself, “wait a second. Radiant Black #9 hasn’t even come out yet (in stores October 27!). Why are they showing us all of this now?" Well, that’s because to do something like this requires a bit of extra time at the printer. That means that this Monday is your last chance to pre-order Radiant Black #10. The standard edition retails for $3.99, while the Fluorescent Blacklight Edition goes for $9.99.
A couple things to note. First, I can’t see a scenario where we ever reprint this. It’s just way too expensive. So, if you’re interested — and I can’t stress this enough, it’s an experience — you need to jump on this now. You can pre-order from your local comic book store, or head to http://radiant.black for different purchase options. It’s going to sell out, and it’s going to be hard to find. You’ve been warned!
And the second thing, is that if you snag yourself a blacklight edition, you’ll soon have something else to shine one of these on:
I say something else, because you may or may not have seen our blacklight keychains start to pop up on social media— I brought the first batch to NYCC, to help showcase our Secret Radiant Signatures:
Cool, right? So, a little bit of good news/bad news on the keychain front— the bad news is, we weren’t able to get manufacturing sorted in time to get these listed and available with Diamond to coincide with the issue 10 release. But the good news is, we’re working on some other ways to get these into your hands.
More on that very, very soon.
Like, “pay-attention-to-issue-9,” soon.
Oh, and what do you think of your first peek at Existence? Let us know below!
Destroy All Monsters
Before I wrap up here, I wanted to give a quick plug to friend/favorite writer, Ed Brubaker, who somehow has another killer new book coming out, Destroy All Monsters. It’s the next in the Reckless series with Sean Phillips and Jacob Phillips, which have become an absolute joy for me to binge read.
To see these guys continue to do the work of their careers, again and again, is inspiring. Honestly, it’s part of the reason that we push to take big swings on stuff like blacklight issues of Radiant Black. There’s just too much good stuff out there to not be inspired.
And Destroy All Monsters is one of them.
It hits stores next week, so definitely snag yourself a copy.
And until next time—
Stay Radiant!

Wow! Definitely going to have to make sure to grab that issue #10 black light variant! That's insane looking!
This looks so cool. I can’t wait to get my hands on issue 10. (That goes for any issue of Radiant Black for that matter).
