062 BMN x Kelly McMahon Moon Man Variant Drop
Rare Black Market exclusive lands with mid-century flair
Hey everyone! Happy Friday! It’s been a minute since our last newsletter— there’s been a lot going on as we work to close out the year, but I wanted to make sure I got at least one more out to everyone as we get ready to roll out some of the coolest books we’ve done at Black Market yet.
Radiant Black is back with its split-timeline double ship for The Catalyst War, our favorite bad-boy-sell-out-anti-hero SHIFT returns in a new one-shot, NO/ONE is about to drop another big twist, plus we’ve got the return of Deep Cuts with an issue that I think— truly— is one of the best comics that I have ever had the fortune to be a part of.
So, the short of it— we’ve got a ton of exciting things about to hit stands. All of which I want to show you a bit from today.
But first up, how about we take an early look at a series we’re also super excited about that’s still available for pre-order?
We’re in the home stretch of issue 1 right now, getting ready to turn files into Image and send this big, oversized superhero debut to the printer. I’m incredibly proud of this series and the ambition and plans that Scott has. We’re going to be trying some different things in this series, while also looking to tell a very grounded contemporary superhero story… with some of the coolest action and style possible.
And the poster above? You’ll see those hopefully start to show up in comic book stores over the coming weeks, ahead of issue 1 on January 31, 2024. Huge props to Michael Busuttil for the killer title and text treatment.
As we get closer to FOC in a few weeks, we’ll be showing off more of the series. Be on the lookout for a trailer soon plus more on the original music (!) that Scott will be putting out in conjunction with each issue.
But for now… how about an early peek? That can’t hurt anything, right?
Here’s page 1.
Oh, and also in the “ultra cool art and color department,” we just revealed Marco and Igor’s cover for issue 2.
Now, as for getting ahold of the book and/or some of the variants— there’s a few different ways to get a copy of issue 1. The best is to pre-order the book through your local comic store. In a lot of cases, if you tell them early enough, they’ll be able to get ahold of one of the ratio variants that we’re offering on issue 1.
If you don’t have a local store, you can find one through the handy Comic Shop Locator page.
Now, if you don’t have a local comic book store but still want a print edition, then I would recommend an awesome store like Golden Apple in Los Angeles who has online ordering and who will actually ship the book to you!
(For digital readers, we’re currently working on something very cool that we hope to be able to tell you more about soon, but save to say, we haven’t forgotten you!)
Or, if you want to snag a copy of my favorite version of Moon Man 1…
BMN x Kelly McMahon Variant
Illustrator extraordinaire Kelly McMahon— who we’re currently working with on her amazing Bad Blood playing cards plus murder mystery— has once again teamed up with Black Market Narrative, this time for a very stylish Moon Man 1 wraparound cover. In fact, we loved the style and feel of her mid-century-infused take so much that we decided we had to do it as a Black Market exclusive!
The BMN x Kelly McMahon edition of Moon Man 1 is limited to 350 copies sans comps and will feature a sleek matte finish with spot gloss… and we’re making it available right now through our storefront in both signed (by Kyle and Kelly) and unsigned editions!
And, as a newsletter subscriber, you’re getting the first crack at it! Head to the link to grab yourself a copy!
Available Soon
Radiant Black #27 and 27.5 - 12/13/23
December 13 is a big day for The Massive-Verse, with an issue of Rogue Sun hitting stands (more on that in a sec) along with two issues of Radiant Black. A few weeks ago, Marcelo, Eduardo, Thobias Daneluz, Rod Angulo, Rod Fernandes, Becca Carey and I put the finishing touches on Radiant Black 27 and 27.5, parts 4 and 5 of The Catalyst War, and I’ve gotta be honest… it was an emotional roller coaster.
For those who haven’t heard the news, from Radiant Black 25 through Radiant Black 30.5, which will make up The Catalyst War, Radiant Black is going to be double shipping every issue, on the same day.
The Catalyst War is an event told across timelines and for reasons that are at the heart of the war, both timelines are integral. What that means practically is that in Radiant Black 27, Marshall is Radiant Black:
While in Radiant Black 27.5, Nathan is Radiant Black:
This is an ambitious story and we’re just getting warmed up. With Radiant Black 27 and 27.5 the books head into territory that… well, I really just can’t wait for you all to see what the <100> are about.
We definitely think these two issues are page turners.
Image doesn’t have issue 27.5 up on their website at the moment, but here’s the listing for issue 27.
And in case you haven’t seen these yet, we also dropped covers for the final two issues of The Catalyst War, Radiant Black 30 and 30.5.
This story goes out big.
Rogue Sun #17 - 12/13/23
Still trapped inside the Sun Stone, Dylan's freedom is finally in sight—but who can he trust to help him escape? And, as the battle outside rages across New Orleans, can he get back in time to save his family?
The latest exploits of Dylan Siegel also hit the stands December 13 and this issue features some of the coolest action of any Massive-Verse series. Also, one of my favorite final splash pages of the year. And this ultra sick double page spread.
If you haven’t scoped out Rogue Sun yet, now’s a great time to catch up! As always, you can read issue 1 for free at the Image site:
SHIFT - 12/20/23
One week later, my girlfriend’s favorite Massive-Verse bad boy makes his return in his own one shot! This 40 pager collects the four stories we did for the Image 30th Anniversary Anthology as well as a new fifth story from SHIFT co-creator Daniele Di Nucolo, myself, Walter Baiamonte and Becca Carey that not only gives an arc to the entire collection but also tees up our favorite techno terrorist for his upcoming appearance in The Catalyst War (Radiant Black 28 and 28.5).
Look, whatever, he’s been doing sit-ups. Good for him. No jealousy.
I can always just leave him in Post Office jail…
NO/ONE #7 - 12/27/23
Our favorite true-crime-cross-media superhero series continues this month with a one-two punch in NO/ONE 7 and episode 7 of the WHO IS NO/ONE podcast.
This month, we’re joined by the mega talented contemporary noir extraordinaire Antonio Fuso. How great does this look? I mean, not for Ben. But, you know, visually speaking. Most excellent.
And of course, a friendly reminder that after each issue you should definitely download and listen to our in-universe podcast, WHO IS NO/ONE. The story is crossing over between the two quite a bit at this point and for the full picture and narrative experience, you’ll want to make sure you’re checking out both. Things are starting to get explosive!
Purchase options for issue 7 are right here.
And you’ll be able to find episode 7 of WHO IS NO/ONE at The Drop.
Deep Cuts #4 - 1/10/23
Deep Cuts 4 ushers in the return of our historical fiction jazz odyssey. This month, we’re in 1950’s New York with a love letter to bebop and all the lost virtuosos. Joe Clark and myself on words, Ramon Perez and Igor Monti on art with Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou on letters.
Ramon and Igor have channeled design and illustration of the era in a truly stunning way. And if you know album covers… you’re going to really have fun spotting all sorts of easter eggs and homages.
This series has been an incredible experience to be a part of and I can’t wait for everyone to see this one. Ramon and Igor are about to leave your jaws on the floor.
And if you need to get caught up, you can find different ways to buy issue 1 right here.
Okay, that’s going to do it for me! We’re looking to close 2023 strong and with Moon Man 1 out at the end of January alongside a new Dead Lucky, we’re going to blast into 2024 in the best way.
And if you’re not already subscribed but you dig really cool stuff… then might I suggest that now’s a great time to join us? Here, I’ll even include the box! Easy!
Happy Holidays!

Sweet, so much awesome stuff!!! 😍
So, for the credits of 27, is Marcelo doing the colors for the issue along with Raul or is it something else entirely?
